These terms describe the use of PTSD.com, operated by PTSD.com, LLC. They cover our educational articles, self-screening tools, grounding resources, and links to support. Read them together with our Privacy policy and Accessibility statement. If you do not accept the applicable terms, please stop using the website.
1. Free access
PTSD.com is entirely free. We do not sell products, services, subscriptions, advertising, paid placement, or leads. There is no checkout, payment requirement, paid result, premium screening, or automatic renewal. You do not need to buy anything to read our resources, use the screening tools, or view and print your results.
Other websites and healthcare providers set their own terms and may charge for their services. PTSD.com’s free-access commitment applies to PTSD.com; it is not a promise that outside treatment or services are free. Following a link does not enroll you in care or create a purchase through PTSD.com.
2. Educational information and the limits of screening
We offer information to help people understand trauma and consider possible next steps. We are not providing medical care, diagnosis, therapy, prescriptions, or personalized treatment. Reading an article or completing a screening does not create a clinician–patient relationship with PTSD.com or a person featured on the site.
A screening score is an educational indicator. It cannot establish or exclude PTSD or another condition, determine whether you need treatment, or predict recovery. Different measures ask different questions and should not be treated as interchangeable diagnoses. Incomplete answers may limit interpretation. Our web implementation and original educational material have not been independently clinically reviewed; see our editorial standards for sources and review status.
Consult a qualified healthcare professional about symptoms, medication, or care. Do not change treatment or postpone seeking help solely because of a screening result or something you read here.
3. Emergencies and your pace
PTSD.com is not an emergency service. Screening answers are not monitored by a person, and completing a screening or seeing a support message does not send an alert or dispatch assistance. If there is immediate danger or a medical emergency, contact local emergency services. Our support page provides additional resources. Email and website feedback are not monitored for emergencies and must not be used to request urgent help.
Some questions concern difficult experiences. Participation is optional. You can skip an item, stop, or clear your answers. There is no requirement to describe an experience in writing. Take a break whenever you need one.
4. Eligibility and responsible use
The screenings are intended for adults aged 18 and older and personal reflection. They are not designed to determine employment, insurance, disability, legal status, or eligibility for services. Use the website lawfully and respect other people’s privacy and rights. Do not impersonate someone, introduce malicious code, seek unauthorized access, bypass security controls, or interfere with other visitors’ access. Automated use must respect access restrictions and must not place an unreasonable load on the service.
We may restrict access when reasonably necessary to address abuse, protect the website, or meet legal obligations. Reporting an error, offering good-faith criticism, or exercising a privacy or accessibility right is not misuse.
5. Your results and information you submit
Screening answers are processed in the current browser page; our screening does not send them to us. You control any summary you print or save and any decision to share it. See the Privacy policy for the distinction between local answers, hosting requests, and saved copies.
If you send feedback or a correction, provide accurate information and only material you are entitled to share. You keep ownership of your submission. You give us permission to handle it as needed to review and respond to your request or make the requested correction. This does not give us unrestricted rights to commercialize private correspondence or publish personal health details. Personal information is handled under our Privacy policy.
6. Content, attribution, and permitted use
Rights in original text, software, design, photographs, and branding remain with their respective owners. You may read the website, share links, and print screening summaries for personal use. Further copying, adaptation, or distribution must comply with the relevant license or an applicable legal exception.
Screening instruments and material attributed to outside authors retain their own copyright or public-domain status. We do not claim ownership of underlying facts, public-domain measures, or third-party material. Credits and sources appear in our editorial information and relevant resources. Naming an instrument’s developer, a clinician, or a public agency does not imply endorsement of this website or its implementation.
For a content or copyright concern, email [email protected] with the page address, the material at issue, the requested correction, and your authority to make the request. Do not include confidential patient information.
7. Outside resources and care decisions
PTSD.com was created by MentalHealth.com, as described on our About page. Links to MentalHealth.com, Rehab.ai, and other websites provide additional places to explore. Those services have their own terms, privacy policies, and business models. We do not book treatment, confirm availability, verify insurance benefits, or guarantee the quality or suitability of a provider merely by linking to it.
Before arranging outside care, confirm credentials, service details, accessibility, costs, and any insurance arrangements directly with the provider. Your relationship with that provider is governed by its own terms. You decide whether and how to contact it.
8. Accuracy, availability, and responsibility
We work to make the website useful, but information and links can become outdated, and technical or editorial errors can occur. We cannot guarantee uninterrupted access, compatibility with every device, or a particular health outcome. Features may be corrected, updated, or withdrawn.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the website and its content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that content or screening results will be error-free, complete, or suitable for a particular medical decision.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, PTSD.com, LLC and its officers, employees, and contributors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of, or inability to use, the website, including loss of data or profits.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, intentional misconduct, gross negligence, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. These terms do not override our express privacy commitments or your nonwaivable consumer, privacy, or accessibility rights.
9. Concerns, disputes, and your rights
To raise a concern, email [email protected] with the relevant page and the resolution you seek. This contact process is optional and does not limit your right to contact a regulator, seek urgent relief, or pursue remedies available under applicable law. Your statutory rights and deadlines remain unaffected.
10. Updates and interpretation
We will identify revisions with an updated date and provide additional notice or request agreement when required. Changes do not retroactively remove accrued rights. If a provision cannot lawfully be enforced, the remaining provisions apply to the extent they can stand independently. Not enforcing a provision on one occasion does not waive it for all future situations.
11. Operator and contact details
